From the 26th to the 28th, the Yangju City Muhandolbom Hope Center carried out a large-scale roof replacement project as part of the “Hope Nest Project,” in collaboration with the housing volunteer group “Our Neighborhood MacGyver Volunteer Team.”

The beneficiary was the home of an elderly individual living alone in the Bongyang-dong rural area. The house, over 50 years old, suffered from severe roof deterioration, causing constant leaks even during light rainfall and resulting in mold growth and unpleasant odors throughout the interior.

Due to the seriousness of the damage, the volunteer team removed the old roof structure and replaced it entirely with a new one. The Yangju City Saemaul Movement Council (Workplace & Factory Division) also provided manpower support, which played a crucial role given the scale of the renovation.

Lee In-je, head of the MacGyver Volunteer Team, explained that the roof damage posed serious risks of electrical leakage, electric shock, and even partial collapse, making immediate repairs necessary.

The elderly resident expressed deep gratitude, saying that due to financial difficulties, repairs had been impossible despite ongoing issues such as leaks and pests, and that the new, solid roof now allows for peace of mind.

The Hope Nest Project, operated by the Yangju City Muhandolbom Hope Center, has been active for nine years since 2015, with a volunteer team of experts in construction, facilities, and interior work. The project has also supported housing improvements for ethnic Koreans from Russia, among other initiatives.

The 2024 Hope Nest Project is being carried out with a KRW 10 million donation from SEALON. SEALON CEO Kim Jin-pyo stated that he learned about the project while supporting holiday events and found great fulfillment in helping seniors live in safer housing.

Na Gyu-pil, Director of the Hope Center, expressed gratitude to all supporters, noting that housing repair projects require significant funding and professional manpower, and pledged continued efforts to support vulnerable and crisis-affected households.
